FARISSUHAIL
THE MANIFESTO

Sitting with one verse, not skimming a hundred.

This site documents my lifelong journey as a student of the Qur'an and hadith — not as a teacher, but as a practitioner from the corporate and engineering world learning to read revelation with tadabbur. I bring unconventional lenses: systems thinking, risk and governance, information science, mathematics. The tradition I study within is conventional; the questions I ask of it come from where I stand. Everything here is a working note, subject to correction.

Assalamualaikum — I'm Faris Suhail, based in Kuala Lumpur. By profession I'm in engineering project management — trained as a cost engineer and project manager across 15 years in the oil and gas industry. AI and tech are the hobby side of the desk: in my free hours I explore and learn these new tools, advise people on them along the way, and figure out how they can sharpen everyday capabilities. And then there is this site: a slow, personal project about reading the Qur'an carefully and bringing it back into everyday, urban, modern life, in English and Bahasa Malaysia.

The Mdrn Urban is what that project is called: surah-by-surah reflections, short stories from revelation, an atlas of ring composition, and a data observatory of the text itself — built piece by piece, in whatever hours the day leaves over.

Why this exists

Understanding grows from sitting with a single verse, not skimming a hundred. Every reflection here begins with a question, and every answer opens a door back into daily life — closed rooms, private screens, tired commutes. The aim is not novelty; it is to make careful, sourced engagement with the Qur'an feel close again.

How the reflections are made — and their limits
